The national surf life-saving championships commenced at St. Clair Beach this morning in fine weather. A strong north-easterly breeze is blowing and the sea is choppy and strong with a rip running. i Results:— Four-man Alarm Championship.— First heat: Sumner, 1; St. Clair A, 2. Second heat: Maranui A, 1; Oreti B, 2; Lyall Bay A, 3. Third heat: Lyall Bay B, 1; New Plymouth Old Boys, 2; Maranui B, 3. Fourth heat: Oreti A, 1; St. Clair B, 2; Taylor's Mistake, 3.
