WELLINGTON PRESBYTERY
The recently-elected Moderator, the Rev. D. M. Hercus, presided at a meeting of the Wellington Presbytery last evening. The Rev. R. Inglis, . Clerk of the Presbytery, was granted three months' leave of absence to enable him to visit Australia. Mr. Donald E. Duncan applied to be taken as a student for the ministry. Mr. Duacan, it was stated, had commenced his university course, and is at present a full-time worker at the Y.M.C.A. The application was granted. Mr. V. G. Chapman was appointed Presbytery treasurer. A minute was adopted congratulating St. John's Church on the attainment of its fiftieth anniversary. The minute commented that the church had always occupied an outstanding position, both in the life of the New Zealand Christian Church and in the community. It was considered certain that, under the scholarly and able ministry of the present minister, the Rev. J. R. Blanchard, it would maintain that position as the leading Presbyterian Church of the capital, city. ' • ■ , Commissioners reported that having conferred with the congregation of Upper Hutt, they were satisfied that the Rev. G. W. Hunt was carrying on a popular and appreciated ministry there. Mr. Hunt was appointed first for a term of five years, and this was later extended for three years. It was recommended that there be a further extension of three years, and this was approved.
