AMATEUR ATHLETICS
THE TEAM FOR DUNEDIN
It was decided last night that the manager of the Wellington team to compete at the New Zealand amateur athletic championships in Dunedin on February 28 and 29 will be Mr. A. C. Kitto, president of the centre. Mr. Kitto will also be a Wellington delegate to the conference of centres to be held in Dunedin at the time of the championships. If necessary one of the members of the team will act as a second delegate. The team, which will be reduced to a minimum because of the expense, will be selected after the provincial championship meeting next Saturday. It is unlikely to comprise more than ten, the estimated cost of sending this number being between £80 and £90. There will be no women's team. It was reported at last night's meeting of the executive that arrangements were well in hand for next Saturday's big gathering, and that only those competitors and officials concerned with the particular event in progress will be permitted on the centre of the ground. This rule will be rigidly enforced. .
Some discussion arose over the position of two athletes, F. H. Stephenson and S. Pye, who were registered with clubs in the Wairarapa and also in Wellington. The point at issue was whether they could compete for the city clubs in the provincial championship meeting and for the country clubs in the country clubs' championships to be held later. A decision is to be made before Saturday.
