ESPERANTO CLUB

The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club took place last Monday night in the hall of the Tararua Tramping Club, Nathan's Building, Grey Street. Mr. Vemon J. Leek presided over a large attendance of members. Correspondence was received from Esperanto clubs and individual Esperantists in England, Ireland, Nova Scotia, Honduras, Yugoslavia, France, Germany, Turkey, Rumania, Denmark, Sweden, and Morocco. After the enrolment of new members the first part of the evening was devoted to tuition. The senior members spent the hour in Esperanto conversation, reading, and translation. The programme period commenced with an' illustrated lecture by Mr. Joseph. Thomas', who spoke on1 the value of international correspondence in helping to bring about a friendly feeling. He was regularly in correspondence with Esperantists in many countries. Postcards and letters were prcn jected on to a screen by means of the club's epidiascope, Mr. B. Douglas Saunders officiating at the machine. Mr. F. Bailey gave several mouthorgan selections, after which an original Esperanto sketch entitled "Frateco" was presented by Miss M. Goodin, and Messrs. C. Cooch and A. Gordon Blong. Mr. B. Ryan at the piano rendered a number of popular songs, followed by a Continental novelty item. The coi> eluding part of the programme was in the hands of Mr. Bertram Potts, who, in the role of >Hunky-Dory, the Esperantist ancient; narrated another of his fantastic meanderings.
