M.C.C. AT GISBORNE

1 ATTRACTIVE BATTING

VISITORS DECLARE

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

GISBORNE. February 11.

Continuing the M.C.C. first innings against Poverty Bay after lunch, three wickets then being down for 90, Mit-chell-Innes scored especially freely, eventually being out for 43, with the total at 139. Human followed and immediately attacked the bowling, but lost Parks, who played very solidly for 45, at 141. Human then hit out at everything and the score mounted rapidly to 206,'when the closure was applied. Blathwayt, a fast-medium trundler with a deceptive swerve, did best of the bowlers. ?. ■ With just under two hours to play, Poverty Bay opened, Boon scoring 5 off the first three balls, but eventually going for 12. Four wickets were down for 26, but a fine fighting innings by Reeves, who played chanceless cricket, took the total to 105, all out, just before stumps. Reeves hit three 4's in his 51 and frequently found gaps to the off for slashing drives; ' Baxter impressed most of the visiting bowlers, swerving the ball remarkably. Scores: — ■ . M.C.C.
