Thompson, a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Thompson, Ashburtoa, has been awarded a college apprenticeship with the Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Company, Manchester, for two years. Sub-Inspector H. Scott, of the Police Commissioner's Office, Wellington, is at present in Christchurch. He is accompanied by Mrs. Scott and Miss E. Scott, and they will leave for Mount Cook this week. Mr. C. H. Clibborn, secretary and treasurer to the Lyttelton Harbour Board, arrived at Wellington yesterday on a business trip. . . A vote of symputhy with the relatives of the late Mr. E, C. Prendeville, a brother of the chairman of the Wellington Rugby Union. (Mr. J. Prendeville), and a former Wellington Rugby representative, was passed at a meeting of the Wellington Union's management committee last night. Rabbi Solomon Katz returned to Wellington from Sydney yesterday, Wing-Commander S. Grant-Dalton, chairman of East Coast Airways, Ltd., left Auckland by the Monowai for Sydney, en route to England. He expects to be engaged in the business of th» company for some months. ''.-•■-. Mr. Feng Wang, 'Chinese Consul in Wellington, and Mrs. Wang, have returned to Wellington from Auckland. Mr. R. H. Nesbitt, Australian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand; is visiting Auckland. '■ . .' Mr. J. E. Davies, instructor in agriculture in Dunedin, has' been transferred to Hawera, where he 'will take up the position of instructor for the South Taranaki district. He will leave for the North on February 22. ~ The death has occurred at Morrinsville of Mr. Alexander Beange, who for many years was closely associated with the growth of dairying in the Waikato. Mr. Beange'joined the Wyndham Dairy Company in 1890, and was later with the Stratford factory. He went to the Waikato in" 1898 and was manager of the Tauwhare cheese factory for three years. He then became manager of the Cambridge,Dairy Association's factory at Hautapu, which position he held until 1915, when he resigned to go to the war. While at Hautapu he was a most successful exhibitor of butter and cheese at dairy shows in different parts of New Zea» land. '
