KINNOULL GOES WELL

WINGATUI FINAL TRIALS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN. This Day. Heavy rain last night gave the Wingatui course a good soaking, but it was just what the track required. For the early workers this morning it was slightly holding. During the breakfast spell a cold, strong southerly wind got up, and had the effect of quickly improving the going, but it was right in the face of the horses as they raced up the back stretch. The outside of the course proper was available for fast work, and the two-year-olds were allowed to run down the centre of the course. Rival Shot and Wild Chase used the centre of the course and finished together at the end of half a mile in 51 4-ssec. Plato, working by himself, took 53 sec for the same journey on the outside of the track. Senior, also by himself, took 56 3-ssec, but he appears to be a bad track worker. Sunee, Greek Shepherd, and The Surgeon finished in that order at the end of a gallop over seven furlongs in lmin 34sec, the last five .furlongs taking Imin 10 2-ssec. Though Sunee was a head in front at the post, it looked as if Greek Shepherd was doing best. The Surgeon did well to be less than a length away. Concertpitch took 54 4-ssec to run half a mile, but was doing it comfortably all the way. Cerne Abbas finished just in front of Custos at the end of five furlongs on the middle of the coursq in lmin ssec, the last half-mile in 52 2-ssec. Custos appeared to be going the better. Knockfin cantered round to the halfmile post, then sprinted home in 55 l-ssec, but she could have gone faster. Stratosphere had slightly the better of a gallop over five furlongs with Nightgem, the last half-mile taking 55 4-ssec. Davolo was not extended to run half a mile in 59 2-ssec. Queen of Song easily held Superex at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 37 2-ssec. Amy Johnson had Hula Belle for a mate in a gallop over nine furlongs, winning easily in 2min 14 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 57 3-ssec. Tizzy was given half-pace on the inside grass track, and sprinted home the last half-m'ile in 56 4-ssec. Arden's Beauty worked alone over half a mile in 56 4-ssec. Latitude and Cottingham finished together over seven furlongs in lmin 36sec, the last half-mile in 56sec. Latitudes effort was a good one. After breakfast Epic and Fair Weather took 53sec to run half a mile on the outside of the-course, the former galloping very attractively. Shock and Daring Deed finished together over six furlongs in lmin 23 1-5 sec. Golden King, looking none the worse for his race at Riccarton on Saturday, ran six furlongs, the last five in lmin llsec. Te Ahaurangi ran five furlongs in lmin 11 l-ssec. Wild Career was going as well as Simon Peter over three furlongs in 40 2-ssec. Song Boy, moving much better than on the previous morning, was ridden out to run half a mile in 53 2-ssec. Sunny Jean showed improved form by running half a mile in 55sec easily, Kinnoull, ridden by his trainer, was trotted and cantered about the inside of the course and finished up a couple of rounds of slow work by sprinting over the last three furlongs in 41 3-5 sec, without being hurried. This three-year-old is very well just now, and will probably start favourite for the Cup. Top Coat was worked on the inside grass track, and allowed to.run along over the last two furlongs. Beam, looking very well, was going easily within herself over five furlongs in lmin 10 l-ssec. The Smuggler and Royal Pal acquitted themselves well over two flights' of schooling hurdles along the back. The Smuggler's efforts were particularly good.
