CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

Miraculously escaping serious injury when a milk van he was "driving crashed into a train at a level crossing in Fendalton this morning, A. Thain now lies in hospital with nothing worse than facial abrasions and shock.

The signals were set and the cross-ing-keeper was in the centre of the road with a stop-sign when the van approached. The crossing-keeper frantically signalled, but the driver went on and hit the centre of the train. The van was completely wrecked.
