OWNERSHIP IN QUESTION

(Received February 12, noon.) LONDON, February .11. The Colonial Secretary, Mr. J. •H. Thomas, said that the question of the ownership of the Pacific islands Jarvis, Baker, and Howland was being investigated.

Last September the Jarvis, Baker, and Howland Islands were surveyed by an expedition under the direction of the United States Department of Commerce Aviation Bureau with a view to their colonisation for use as bases for Pacific air services.
