THE NATIONAL STUD
At various times during the past few years it has been stated that the sale of the National Stud, owned by the British Government, at Tully, in the Irish Free State, was probable, and the statement is again revived. This now takes shape as the result of negotiations between the British. Government and that of the Irish Free State, and it is anticipated that the transfer to the latter will be made during April of the present year. The stud was originally a gift to the English Government from the late Lord Wavertree with a view to breeding horses for the use of the Army. The actual property cost the Government about £50,000, but the stallions, brood mares, yearlings, foals, and horses in training were a gift.
