HANDSOME WIN

AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS

JOHANNESBURG MATCH

(Received January 28, 10 a.m.)

JOHANNESBURG, January 27.

The Australian cricketers defeated Transvaal by an innings and 29 runs.

The weather was fine and warm and the wicket perfect for the resumption of the match. Darling was the victim of a great catch at deep square leg. He hit nine 4's. Chipperfield hit two 4's in succession, but was then bowled by a beautiful ball turning from the off. Another sensation was when Fingleton was bowled, the first ball of Gaydon's next over keeping low and shooting in sharply. Fingleton displayed delightful forcing tactics and hit eleven 4's. At lunch Australia had lost six wickets for 294. Sievers, batting brilliantly, ran up 72 in ninety minutes with eleven 4s. The Australian innings occupied 275 minutes.

Transvaal began its second innings after tea and after a good opening partnership by Coen and Rowan and a stand by the tail-enders, Langton and Nupen, the side were all out shortly •after 6 o'clock, the captains agreeing to finish the match today. Langton hit O'Reilly over the roof of the members' stand and later hit two successive sixers off Grimmett.
