HAWEEA, January 27. With the exception of a slight fog, early conditions at the Hawera racecourse were excellent for training operations on Saturday and a lot of useful work was performed by ths horses with near engagements. The plough track was mamly used for the fast work, being slower than the grass, on which two gallops only were performed.
Carfex galloped on the trial grass, covering his five furlongs comfortably in lmin 7sec.
The two-year-old Waiongona soon put this effort in the shade by conceding Master Limond a start and beating him home by a length in lmin 4£sec. On the plough, Aga Khan, who was again unsuccessful at Ashhurst, was given a couple of rounds of steady pace work. . , Euiform and March Alone galloped seven furlongs in lmin 34 l-ssec, Euaform finishing three lengths in front. Ingenuity and Seamond were companions in a gallop over seven furlongs, Ingenuity finishing well in front of her companion in lmin 36sec. The pa:r went away slowly, the first two furlongs' occupying 28|sec, but the last half-mile was done in 53Jsec. Fersen sprinted three furlongs in 384 sec. Advance Plane galloped five fuflongs in lmin 6sec. Kentucky Song beat Bantry by two lengths over six furlongs in lmin 18Jsec, the last half-mile UlAlchemic, under a pull, did the last three furlongs of a mile in 42sec. Friesland went three furlongs in 39sec. Soloist, Debut, One Whetu, Supreme Court, Wotan, and Colenso did solid pace work.
