TWILIGHT ATHLETICS

MEETING AT BASIN

KEEN COMPETITION

A further twilight athletic gathering was conducted by the Scottish Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club at the Basin Heserve last evening. The fields in most instances were good, and the competition, generally very keen. With the exception of the cycle races, the events were all graded scratch contests.

The 220 yards A grade race produced an exceptionally close finish, a foot separating the placed men. The event, however, was marred to some extent as it was run without lanes, C. Robinson, the promising Kiwi Club runner, on the outside,, receiving in particular a bad passage. W. J. Fitzsimmons, the provincial champion, was awarded the event, with Robinson second and J. Phillips third.

A, K. Wilson, the provincial champion, in spite of an injured ankle, had a very easy win in the mile. His form indicates that he will be a strong competitor in the national mile championship contest at Dunedin next month.

In the relay race, won by Wellington, W. Ogg (Olympic), the provincial 880 yards title holder, ran excellently over the final distance, the half-mile. He was the last man away, receiving the baton some 50 yards behind E. Forne, national mile' champion, but finished second, 20 yards behind Forne. THE RESULTS.
