TECHNICAL COLLEGE
PROGRESS OF NEW BLOCK
DELAYS IN BUILDING
The new building being added to the Wellington Technical College will not be ready for occupation before the end| of the'first term. This statement was made by the director of the college (Mr. R; G. Ridling) at a meeting of the college board of governors last night. In a report Mr.' Ridling said that progress on the building had been very slow, but. the cause of the delays had liot always been within the control of the contractor. -The maritime strike held up the supply of steel and the supply of bronze for the manufacture of windows. In consequence none of the rooms would be ready for occupation at the beginning of the year. There was no prospect of the completion of the erection of the steel before the college opened in February. This was very regrettable because of the noise of the automatic riveters was a disturbance to students and teachers alike. As far as possible alterations which were necessary in the main block would be completed by the end of January. The openings^ for the doorways into the auditorium; the placing of additional steps in the main stairway, and the erection of the new flue for the heating system had been proceeded with. In addition the men's staff room had been divided to form a store and high-frequency room for the radio laboratory.
