RACES AT ELLERSLIE

HIGH-HEELED SHOES ABSENT

Quietness and simplicity were outstanding features of the frocks worn at the Takapuna Jockey Club's Meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday, states the "New Zealand Herald." The darker shades of black and navy blue vied in popularity with white and soft pastel shades in a varying range of blues, pinks, and greens, while occasional touches of bright colour were introduced in a shady red hat, or a pair of scarlet gloves, a belt, or a handbag.

A feature of the frocking was the almost total absence of very high-heel-ed shoes Although a number of women wore fairly low-heeled shoes with smartness, a number of otherwise welldressed women ruined their appearance completely by wearing heavy brown or black shoes and dark stockings with a light-coloured frock of an equally light material.
