FIRING AT 900 YARDS

PETONE CLUB

The Petone Rifle Club fired a further competition counting for the Burridgo Cup and Longfleld aggregate at Trentham on Saturday at 900 yards. The sighting was good, but the wind required close attention, although at times there were particularly steady "patches," when the competitors got their shots away quickly and made the most of the improved conditions.

The club standard for 900 yards is 44 for ten shots, and the shooting on Saturday, with twenty scores equal to or better than the standard, showed vast improvement over the previous week's performances at the same distance. The best range score was returned by J. C. Carter, with 49 out of the possible 50 (his ninth counter was an "inner"), whilst O. Pedersen (twice), C. E. Tanner, K. A. Ballinger, and W. M. Jackson scored 48. T. McNab returned two good 47's, W. L. McIver and P. Stewart 46 each, seven scores of 45. and three of 44.

I O. Pedersen tops the list off the gun for the day with the brilliant aggregate of 96, followed by T. McNab (94), and both members were congratulated on their performances. W. J. Mclver and T. B. Richards each totalled 90, followed by T. F. Cooper, C. E. Tanner, and J. C. Carter, 89 each; E. A. Ballinger, 88; W. H. Ballinger, 87. Next Saturday the shooting for the club championships will commence. The shooting will also count for the Burridge Cup, Longfield aggregate, Flaws Cup, and third series.
