AN INCREASED DEMAND

In the belief that the depression is passing and the outlook brighter with the repeal of prohibition in the United States, champagne controllers carried out a stocktaking which revealed more than 100,000,000 bottles in stock, equivalent to the world's normal consumption for five years. In addition cellars contain sufficient to fill another 48,000,000 bottles. Cheapening of the home price, which is now between 2s 6d and 12s 6d a bottle, according to quality, is causing a steady increase in consumption.
