LOWER HUTT SERVICES

HELD IN ALL CHURCHES

Special references to the death of the late King George V and to the accession of Edward VIII were made in all the Hutt Valley churches 'yesterday. : At each Mass in the Catholic Church, Lower Hutt, prayers of thanksgiving for the reign of the-late King -and prayers for the success of the reign of Edward VIII were offered. ■:

The morning service at St. Janies's Anglican Church and the evening services at the Laing's Road Methodist Church were civic services attended by the Mayor and Mayoress- (Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Andrews), the Hqn, Walter and Mrs. Nash, and councillors . and their wives, the Town Clerk (Mr. B. S. Knox), and the Borough Engineer (Mr. R. F. Mainland), Mr. W.: P. Williams, and other well-known citizens. The preacher at St. James's was the Rev. H. E. K. Fry and the organist Miss B. G. G. Hart, who played the Funeral March. The lessons were read respectively by Mr. J. W. Andrews and the Hon. Walter Nash, M.P.

The preacher at the Methodist Church was the Rev. Harold Sharp, and the organist Mr. Hon-Horman, who also played the Funeral March. A solo was sung by Mr. W. E. Saunders. The church was draped with; purple and black with white flowers. The morning services at Knox and St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church were memorial services- and were conducted by the Rev. J. Thompson Macky and Mr. H. W. Kerley. Special anthems were rendered. Knox Church was draped arid St. Stephen's was relieved with white flowers.

The Rev. Hayes Lloyd conducted a special evening service in the Baptist Church, which also was draped and relieved with .purple, and white flowers.. \ '-•

The Mayor and councillors of Upper Hutt attended memorial services..: «t St. John's Anglican Church, Trentham. and St. David's Presbyterian Church, Upper Hutt. -' ; The Mayor and councillors of East--bourne attended memorial services at the Anglican and Presbyterian Churches.
