YESTERDAY'S CHURCH SERVICES
DAY OF NATIONAL PRAYER
LARGE CONGREGATIONS ATTEND
With a unanimous voice, all creeds yesterday paid a tribute to his late Majesty, King George V, at special services in their respective churches. The day was specially set apart as one of commemoration for the. late ruler, and many eloquent tributes were paid' extolling the virtues of King George, emphasising his beneficent influence, and drawing attention to his Christian mode of living. Tlie occasion was one on which the citizens ol Wellington, in their thousands, publicly showed then- loyally to Ihe Throne and. their sympathy for the Royal Family. The official service was held at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, and was attended by his Excellency the Governor-General (Viscount GaJway), the Prime Minister (the Hon. M. J. Savage) and Ministers of the Crown, and leaders in, all walks of life. The Bishop of Wellington (the Rt. Rev. Dr. T. H. Sprott) was-the preacher In the other churches there were large congregations also, and the day was fittingly observed as one marking the passing of a beloved Sovereign.
