MR. BROAD'S REPLY

When asked today if he had any comment to make upon the criticism of the selection of the Wellington team, Mr. P. B. Broad, chairman of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association, stated that the results of the matches with Canterbury and Otago supplied the best answer to the criticism. The management committee, said Mr. Broad, had had under consideration for many years the question of the best methods of selecting its representative teams.

"We have tried in the past on three distinct occasions," he continued, "three sole selectors, and have also made use of a selection committee of three. On the whole my own view is that if a suitable sole selector can be obtained then that is the most suitable course to follow.

"Throughout New Zealand, however, the method of selecting teams has always offered difficulty, and the local management committee, is far from seeing eye to eye with the New Zealand Cricket Council in' its appointment of four selectors to choose the New Zealand teams.

"It has, however, an open mind in the matter, and is always pleased to receive suggestions such;as the one made. But it seems to me," concluded Mr.. Broad, "that the results are a triumph for Mr. Duncan, -and that being so, I cannot see any reason-why the management committee should be concerned with any alteration in the method of selection."
