A DELICATE OPERATION

The utmost consternation was expressed on the faces of members of the Evans Bay beach committee at the special meeting held recently to supervise and assist in cutting li inches off the bow of the Ariki. Many dire prophecies were made and much adverse criticism offered, but in spite of everything Measurer Bolland went ahead and removed the offending piece from the bow personally. It should be added in explanation that the Douglas brothers are expecting to win the inter-club cup this year—hence the precaution. The old and trusty yacht Buzz is to be recommissioned by the honorary secretary, Mr. C. M. Haybittle. On almost any calm evening he is to be

seen sailing over the moonlit waters of the bay in his fine craft. Mr. Haybittle has definitely decided that he will not be taking part in club races, but will reserve his boat entirely for pleasure purposes.

A newcomer to the bay this season, as far as racing is concerned, is the launch Naila (ex Miss Titahi, and once owned by Mr. S. W. Moult). She has been putting up very consistent performances, and her present owner (Mr. F. E. Deverill) has justification for taking pride in what is a very fine craft.
