PLIMMERTON'S TWO WINS

AUCKLAND, January 24.

The fifth race in the Corn well Cup was sailed this morning in a light breeze from the south, over two rounds of the course, starting at 5.55 a.m Auckland scored their second win, beating Christchurch by 33sec. Kaiapoi was third..

At the start several boats were unable to keep on the right side of the line in the light air, Parcmata and Auckland losing time by returning. Wellington was first away, followed by Kaiapoi, Hamilton, Manukau, Plimmerton, Christcburch, Paremata, Lytteltoa, Tauranga, Otago, and Auckland. On the beat of a mile to the mark off Bayswater Wharf all moved slowly. Christchurch did well in' the light breeze, her sail setting with a good round. Wellington, Plimmerton, Kaiapoi, and Manukau were next to Christchurch, rounding in this order and Christchurch increasing the lead to lmin 20sec ahead of Wellington, with Lyttelton lmin 50sec and Auckland 2min 35sec behind. In the lead back to the clubhouse the four leaders moved away from the rest of the-fleet, but the wind was very light. Christchurch maintained the lead, with Wellington second, and Auckland third. Auckland and Christchurch were now close together and drifted round the mark. Kaiapoi, by keeping well up the bay, did better, cpming close to Lyttelton and Wellington at the mark which the three rounded with little between them. A better breeze now set in and Auckland drew up on Christchurch and halfway across the bay drew clear. Auckland rounded the last mark at llh lOra 10s, followed by Christchurch llh llm 20s. Kaiapoi was third. The finishing times were:—Auckland, llh 32m 345; Christchurch, llh 33m 375; Kaiapoi, llh 43m 445; Tauranga, llh 44m 225; Wellington, llh 46m 23s;'Lyttelton, llh 46m 30s; Plimmerton, llh 54m 3s; Otago. llh 58m 10s; Hamilton, 12h 2m 48s; Whangarei, 12h 3m 435. THE SEXTH RACE. The sixth race was sailed this afte^ noon over two rounds of a windward and leeward course of five miles in a steady northerly breeze. From a very good start Christchurcli was first away, followed by Plimmer* ton, Hamilton, and Manukau. On the run to the leeward mark oft Northcote Point Manukau took the lead, followed by Hamilton, Plimmerton, and Christchurch. The first round was finished with Manukau leading by 46sec from Plimmerton, with Lyttelton 54sec and Auckland lmin 12sec later respectively. The same order was maintained in the last round except that Auckland moved into third place. Plimmerton again sailed a good course and made no mistakes on the second round, keeping to weather ol Manukau and Auckland all the way with Tauranga also sailing well close up.
