MUSICIANS ENTERTAINED

Dr. Edgar L. Bainton, Director of the State Conservatorium of New South Wales and visiting • delegates ' to the music conference, were entertained- at a reception given in their honour by the local branch of the Music Teachers' Association in the Pioneer Club oa Thursday evening.. ■ There was a 1 large attendance. ■ ' ■" ■■'■-

In replying, Dr. Bainton pointed out that although the air was charged-with, music today, it need,not imply a.,surfeit, but could be used as a stimulus for an ever advancing standard of appreciation and performance.- He encouraged teachers to retain a fresh interest in modern ideas, as the moderns of today might become the classics of tomorrow, as the history of art showed in the past. .". .■.•;'
