WHOLESALE PRICES

The general impression left by the December price movements is one of continued firmness. This is particularly encouraging after the sharp increase of the early autumn, for it suggests that the' British wholesale price-level is settling down at about 6 per cent, above its level of last summer. This is much sounder than if the price-ievel were continuing to rise mainly because of one or two spectacular advances. In fact, the trend of British prices is now being determined by the progress of the trade revival, while the firmness of the price-level is,in turn fostering trade.

Another indication of Britain's growing prosperity is contained in the national accounts for the first nine months of the financial year. They show a rise of £22,611,755 in ordinary revenue, against an anticipated increase for the full "year of £18,000,000, allowing for the tax concessions made last April.
