AUCKLAND OFFERING
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
"Erratic sale" describes the second Auckland wool sale being held today. There is an offering 0~2 28,000 bales, which is heavy for Auckland. The average returns are not markedly different from those of last November. Whereas growers ivere buoyed up by the recent New Zealand sales and anticipated a substantial improvement, coarse sold on a par with November, while medium and fine were cheaper* 46's to 48's about a farthing easier, and 50's and better about a halfpenny lower. The Loan and Mercanliia -offered the first 762 lots. Five bales of crossbred Walotira sold at 73d. Buyers continued to bi> keenly, but were obviously tied down to close limits. The top price so far is 16;! d for a line of halfbred wool from. Chamberla^i's farm at Ponui Island, Hauraki Gulf. • The Auckland clip opened up in good condition but a large percentage of lots was insufficiently skirted, and consequently bidding was limited. Compared with the prices at the^ last Dominion auctions, the values for finer wools wpre from par to a farthing per lb easier; coarse quality and culls equalled late rates. Bellies and pieces were eagerly competed for,, these being si-cured by Continental buyers. Lambs' wool, of which there was a medium entry, brought keen competition from Bradford, the Continent, and Australia, realising up to late rates. A limited quantity of halfbred went to Continental, Australian, and local mills.
Continental buyers were the keenest, Bradford buyers operating strictly to defined limits.
I The results of the first catalogue provided a good indication of the sale as a whole, though the passings were less frequent in the later offerings. On the whole there was a good clearance and the sale concluded shortly after ' 1 o'clock.
