ON SALE IN SHOPS

The warm rain towards the end of last week was responsible for an exceptionally early crop of mushrooms. City shops have been displaying these delicacies at prices ranging from Is 4d to 2s 3d per pound. Some of the very early mushrooms which found their way to the markets on Thursday last sold at a penny each. There was not a sufficient quantity at that time to sell them by the pound. Following tne heavy rain on Friday night good crops of mushrooms were gathered in the vicinity of Otaki and Manakau, and the city markets on the Saturday morning had a fair supply. Mushrooms have also been found in the vicinity of Wellington. One enthusiast reported having gathered 61b in an hour and a half.
