BOWLING

RINKS TOURNEY

THE SEVENTH ROUND

MANY ELIMINATED

The seventh round of the Wellington Bowling Centre's Christmas rinks tournament, which was completed this morning, left nine of the forty rinks competing with good chances of places in the post-sectional play on Monday, the best scores being six wins by two rinks. The rink skipped by Watts (Victoria) and that skipped by Porteous (Wellington) secured six out of the seven games played and consequently require only one of the two games to be played_ this afternoon to continue on Monday. Seven others have five wins and have a chance of a section win or the seven games required for post-section play. When play commenced this morning the sky' was overcast and rain threatened, but the greens played well and the weather improved later in the morning. There was a tricky breeze at times but it did not interfere with play to any extent. The Thorndon, Seatoun, Karori, and Victoria greens were used and all proved satisfactory, the Thorndon green being slightly heavier than most, with the result that play was over there at an early hour. One of the best games of the morning was that between Skoglund (Island Bay) and Cometti (Hataitai), at Seatoun. Both rinks fought every inch of the way, the drawing being good on both sides. A number of the heads were burned in endeavours to recover from difficult situations, and the game ended with the low score of 16 to 14 in Skoglund's favour. Details of the play on the four greens are as follows:— SEVENTH ROUND. SECTION A. Halliday (Hataitai) 30; Markman (Thorndon) 9. Watts (Victoria) 29; Edwards (Island Bay) 18.
