WIN FOR HUTT
AGAINST MERCANTILE LEAGUE
The third annual '■■ match between representatives of the Hutt Valley Cricket Association and the Wellington Mercantile, League. was concluded on Athletic Park yesterday, and resulted in Hutt Valley gaining their first win, by 96 runs. . ■•:■; ■ . ■ Hutt scored 252 in their first innings, and at-the resumption of play yesterday Mercantile had 141 runs in hand oh. their first innings,'with six-wickets, down. Torrihgtoh made top; score in the innings with 36, and the side's total was 175; :'■":■-. ■'-'■" ■• - ' T. Jones was the best bowler, taking five for 36.:. '■'...With, a 1 lead of 77 runs on the first innings, Hutt Valley's batsmen opened out in their second strike and most of them wielded the bat breezily. They scored 153 in the innings, T. Jones's 30. being they top score.. Jennings's four wickets for 35 runs was the best bowling performance. At. the. start of their second innings Mercantile were faced with the task of making 23.1 in 170 minutes on a worn wicket, and it was not. surprising that
they failed. As it was their score of 134 was a creditable performance. Darragh did best with the bat, scoring 37.- ...... .
