RED CROSS CAFETERIA

Miss Susie Eagar, honorary secretary of the Red Cross Cafeteria at the General Hospital, entertained her helpers at morning tea recently prior to closing down for the Christmas holidays. Miss Eagar received her guests, among those present being the following:—Dr. Thorne, Captain M. S. Galloway, Mr. Angus, Mesdames Galloway, Ellen, Steele, CTNeill, N. Boag, G. Boag, Manson, Bain, Thorne, Thomas, L. Angus, J. Keogh, Petch, Hayman, Furby, Morris, Ivin, Connell, Sister B. J. Stringer, and Misses Cambourne, A. Bain, and S. F. Eagar. Captain Galloway, secretary of the Wellington Centre, in introducing Dr. Thorne, superintendent of the hospital, referred to the loyal service rendered by the ladies under Miss Eagar since Vie cafeteria was inaugurated over eight years ago, and thanked them for their useful endeavours. He' also expressed the. society's indebtedness to Dr. Thorne and the members of the board for their constant support. Dr. Thorne spoke appreciatively o£ the work which the ladies had done. The cafeteria service, he said, line] proved of great value to the outpatients and enjoyed the full support of the board and himself. Asa token of esteem. Miss Eagar was presented with a beautiful bouquet, accompanied by the good wishes of her co-workers.

Blind students, numbering eighteen, from the New Zealand Insliluc for the Blind, Auckland, arrived in Wellington on Friday, proceeding south on Christmas vacation. On arrival at Thorndon the party was met by the Red Cross Society, by whom transport was arranged from the train to home and billets, and later to the south boat. The men for the south were accommodated at the V.M.C.A. and the ladies at the Y.W.C.A. On Friday afternoon the members of the narty .were the guests of the Blind Social Club at a Christmas oarty. whore thoy had a most' enjoyable time. The term for 1936 opens at the institute early in February, when the parly returns.
