GUARDING OF EGYPT

BRITISH PRECAUTIONS

UNLOADING OF WAR MATERIALS

NAVAL & AIE STRENGTH

United Press Association—By Electria Tele- • graph—Copyrinht. (Received December 20, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, December 19. The "Sun-Herald" agency says it has been known for some days that Britain is shipping large quantities of war materials to the Mediterranean. The first actual news comes from Alexandria, where it is stated that there is evidence everywhere of Britain's thorough precautions to, guard Egypt against dangers arising from the international situation. British soldiers for weeks have been unloading war materials on the quays all night long under flares and arc lights. Many steamers have arrived from England loaded with military . cargoes of every description, including thousands of rolls of barbed wire, aeroplanes, guns, lorries, ambulances, and tanks. It is reported that more troops will arrive shortly. * ' Lines of warships exercising - and practising gunnery daily on the horizon are no longer a novelty, and residents have'become accustomed to the'crashing of anti-aircraft guns on the seafront.; Wooden barracks and' offices are springing up like mushrooms at strategic points. Nearly eighty units of the British Navy have assembled at Alexandria, whose harbour is full for the first time in history. The British air strength in Egypt-is a closely-guarded secret, but it is known to exceed the Italian aeroplanes in Libya.
