BREAKING-UP PARTY

The-Wellington North Preparatory School breaking-up party, held on Wednesday, was a very pleasant gathering. The success of the school and the esteem in which the principal, Mrs. Singleton, is held, were shown by the large gathering of parents and visitors who were 'much impressed by the specimens of. the children's. work exhibited on the walls of the room, which was very prettily decorated for the occasion. .

A varied programme was given by the pupils, commencing with the opening prayer and the singing of the National Anthem. Special items were contributed by the following children: —Vocal solos by Margaret Richards and Jimmy Morrison, and elocutionary items by Mary Andis, Margaret Richards, Pamela and Paul Holowlay, lan Halley, Campbell Brown, Frank McMorran, and Trevor Purdey. Many songs were given by the combined school and by various groups of the children, no one failing to. take some share in the • entertainment. At the conclusion of the programme morning tea was dispensed. Before dispersing Mrs. Purdey, on behalf of the mothers and the children, asked Mrs. Singleton to accept a very handsome Morocco handbag with the best Christmas wishes of all. Mrs. Singleton was also the recipient of a number of gifts of beautiful flowers and small Christmas presents from the pupils.
