THEFT OF RUG

ONE MONTH'S GAOL

The theft of a travelling rug valued at £2 from a motor-car parked in Taranaki Street on November 20 was responsible for the appearance of Alfred Croft before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today. He pleaded guilty and was convicted and sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Mr. F. W. Ongley appeared for the accused. Detective-Sergeant L. B. Eevell said that the rug belonged to Mr. John Clery, who left it in his car. Another man used the car and parked. it in Taranaki Street at 3 o'clock on the afternoon of November 20. When he came back at 7 o'clock the rug was missing. It was traced to the possession of the accused, who said he had purchased it fr6m some.unknown man on the afternoon that it had been stolen. He was in the vicinity of the car on the afternoon of November 20, and there seemed no doubt that he had taken the rug. The accused had quite a list of previous convictions.
