Barry appeared for ' sentence on. seven charges of- breaking, entering, and theft, and Reyell on six similar charges.' .' ..-.,.'

Mr. .J. ■ Meltzer, who appeared for JRevell, asked his Honour, to take a lenient-view-of the case against his client, who was only 19, notwithstanding the fact that the offences were over a period of months. ■ i . . ■ ■

, His Honour: Not only extending over a ; pariod of ,months, but covering a variety of goods. And the goods were carefully hidden underground in places where they were not likely to be found. It all shows' a system. I mention that because it is my difficulty in the. case. ... , ■ .

?arry, who was. riot represented by counsel, said he was a married man ' with two children. He well realised what he had done, and when he had served his punishment he intended to go straight. He had once been in the Salvation' Army, and he intended to go back there.' *' ■

His Honour, in imposing sentence, said' that 'if the 'prisoners had committed only one offence, or even if there had been. Uyo'Offences, he. might have been "able to" grant probation, but where two had joined together for a period of-' month's in breaking • arid entering;a.number of different places if was impossible to deal with the .'case on the basis of probation.

Barry was sentenced, to reformative detention for a period of two years, and Reyell was committed to a Borstal institution for a similar period.

Mr. P. S. K. Macasscy appeared for the Crown.
