TRADE RESTRICTIONS

LONDON, December 17.

Questioned about the effect of quotas arid other trade restrictions on freight, the President of the-Board of Trade, Mr. Walter Runciman, in the House of Commons, amid ironical Opposition cheers, said that the policy of the Government was-to provide for the removal, of such restrictions.

Sir Percy Harris asked Mr. Runciman if he had seen the statement of the chairman of the P. and- O. Company pointing out the serious effects'of restrictions on the shipping trade between Australia and Britain.

Mr. Runciman: Yes; I shall pay attention to that and similar recommendations. . .
