POPPY AND ROSE DAYS
SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS
To show its appreciation of the generous assistance given each year on "Poppy Day" and "Rose Day" by Mrs. J. I. Goldsmith and her associates, the Wellington branch of the South African War Veterans' Association entertained them at afternoon tea at Kirkcaldie and Stains's tearooms yesterday. The tables were decorated with vases of deep red roses. Mrs. Goldsmith, who wore a navy floral frock and navy picture hat, was presented with a handsome leather handbag with a green suede lining, made by disabled soldiers, and bearing an inscribed silver plate.
Mr. J. J. Clark, president of the association, welcomed Mrs. Goldsmith, and said the association was giving the afternoon tea to thank her and the collectors for their very loyal support and generous help each year on "Poppy Day" and "Rose Day." He then made the presentation on behalf of the association.
Mrs. Goldsmith thanked the members of the association for their tribute, and said that without the capable help of her friends she could never have accomplished her work.
Mr. G. Noblett, president of - the South Australian branch, gave a short address, and Mrs. J. Aston, on behalf of the women collectors, thanked the association for the compliment paid to them and for affording the various
