TOURIST PUBLICITY

LECTURES IN ENGLAND

(From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, November. 16.

Under the direction of the High Commissioner, an energetic campaign for tourists for New Zealand is being prosecuted in the southern towns of England. At this time of the year, people of means are wintering in the South Coast towns. In pursuance of this campaign, a lecture was given at Worthington on November 12 by the Publicity Officer, Mr. H. T. B. Drew, and though the weather was extremely unpleasant, a heavy hailstorm occurring early in the evening, the pavilion was comfortably filled.

Mr. Drew gave first a brief review of the progress New Zealand had made from her earliest days until the present, related her achievements in world and Empire trade, and in the social and economic spheres, and: said that from these points of view alone, the country could interest any visitor. But the Dominion also was one of the most beautiful countries in the world from the point of view of scenery, and he then, with the aid of lantern slides and film, showed some of the outstanding features of the Dominion's scenery.'

Opportunity was taken io refer to the various routes by which New Zealand could be visited and to" give a brief description of each. Estimates of cost were quoted, and these were shown to be less actually than those of a winter's sojourn in European towns, especially with the exchange at its present rate, and particular emphasis was laid on the attractions New Zealand could offer to people of means or to those who had retired from active life on pensions. Comparisons of cost of living were given, and the advantages of the New Zealand State education system were described. For travellers, the lecturer said, there was the State Tourist Department, the chief object of which was to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of the tourist.

At the conclusion, the lecturer wai .very heartily applauded.
