TRIBUTE TO MR. J. L GRIFFIN

Members of the council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants paid memorable tribute yesterday to Mr. J. L. Griffin, a former president, who has retired from the council after twelve years of service. In making a presentation of a framed photograph of membersvof the eounj cil, the president. Mr. P. B. Foots 1 (Tiniaru), Said that his colleagues and j himsell were' deeply grateful to Mr. Cirifßn for his very valuable servicss Ito the society. I Mr. H. Valentine.-, remarked that he. had been associated with.Mr. .Griffin for a great many years—some of the , most strenuous, years in the soicety's history. During his own term as president last year he had -much to be thankful for to Mr. Griffin. The society had been fortunate in having the help of Mr. Griffin, for so.many years in building up the standards. Mr. G. W. Reid (Dunedin) said that Mr. Griffin had gone, as far as any individual could in raising the standard of the profession in the eyes of the public. For some years past the legal profession and the business community had regarded the society as lucky in having a man of Mr. Griffin's calibre on the executive. Mr. Archibald, Smith (Christchurch) declared tha.t the efficient manner in j which Mr. Griffin had tackled and completed very important tasks dming many years had been a very helpful inspiration to other members.
