CHILDREN'S RECITAL,

(From- "The Post's" Representative) The Labour Hall, Petone, was filled with an enthusiastic audience recently when Miss Billy Stevens presented her annual dance recital. • The programme which had been-cleverly and artistically thought out included.items by the very little ones and upwards to the senior classes. The recital opened with a rollicking chorus entitled "Happy," the soloist being Miss A. Candy. The dancers w.ore golden spotted tunics, and gave an impression of "carefree" beings. "Love in Bloom" and "Slow Rhythm" were danced by the seniors, led by Zelma Cook and Billy Poole. The outstanding item of the evening was 'The Enchanted Forest," which depicted trees (in leaf-green gowns), the dawn .(wearing shell pink), the wind (soft smoke, grey), butterflies and "bunnies" (in soft white with large pink ears). As the "foresf'burst into life the "trees" swayed and the little "rabbits" caused much amuse-' ment . with their antics. Smart tap dances, solos by Miss Jepson and Mr. Fitton, recitations by Miss Freda Cooper, and a Hawaiian trio gave variety, and an uncanny "Bends and Twists" item danced by T. and V. Taylor, M. Cording, J. Walker, N. McCormick, V. Coker, P. Bryant, surprised the audience by its originality. Finally "Lullaby Land" and "Pyjarna Blues," by the juniors, brought the programme to an end, after which bouquets and gifts, were showered on Miss Stevens and her pupils. ' ■ Young People's Dance. Many delightful dances have been held by the school section of Toe H, but few have been so successful as the one held recently in the R.S.A. Hall. Upon entering the hall the guests immediately noticed the cheery 'atmosphere, the many red, white, end blue lights giving a "Christmas feeling." Bunting and flags lined the stairway, while novelties all added to the enjoyment. A band of Toe H boys dressed as chefs prepared and served a delicious supper. Mr. Lucas Hunt provided plenty of hilarity as he carried out his duties of M.C. Among those present were Mrs. L. Hunt (who wore pink watered crepe), Misses J. Miles (pink organdie), Y. Vickery (floral marocain), K. Murray (floral georgette), D. Costello (scarlet net), M. Sharlon (blue georgette), N. Thornton (white taffeta), D. Carter (white net), E. Beu (white sand crepe), T. The children of the Lower Hutt Free Kindergarten for many, weeks have looked forward to their Christmas party, and busy little fingers worked hard at presents for "Mother ■ and Father." At last the party day ar 7 rived, and a happy gathering was held in the Kindergarten Hall, which was gaily "decorated in scarlet, with a big Christmas tree in the centre ■ laden with good things. Each child received a gay paper hat and novelty Santa Claus, while calendars ahd' blotting pads made by the" children were given to the parents. Credit was given to Miss N.
