TOO CONSCIENTIOUS
"A victim of his own conscientiousness" was the comment of the Coroner at a Camberwell inquest recently on Alfred James Smith, 35, a Press telegraphist, living at Melbourne Grove, East Duhvich, who was killed" in an effort to catch his train.
It was slated that Smith was due at his office at four o'clock and as the 3.40 p.m. electric train was leaving Denmark Hill at 15 m.p.h. he was seen to dash along the platform and catch hold of the rear of the train. He was •flung off on to the rails. A fellowemployee gave evidence that Smith was very conscientious and that punctuality was important in his department. .. Verdict: Accidental death.
