LATE ARTHUR EASTWOOD
An account in. the Christchurch Post Office Savings Bank in the name- of Arthur Henry Eastwood was recently opened by a representative of the Press;: gallery 'that' operates: at \ the various meetings at Riccarton. A '■ sum of money had been? lying to the credit of members for some time, and instead of distributing it in the usual manner it was decided-as a mark of respect to the well-known horseman,. A. H. Eastwood, who was fatally injured at the New Zealand Cup Meeting twelve months ago, to: commence a banking account for his infant son, who is now six months old.
SOME HASTINGS HORSES
Salon, who may be taken to Auckland for the Summer Meeting, is now working better than he has for some time past,, writes '-The Barb." After his return from Avondale in the spring, he went all to pieces and it is only during the last few weeks that he has commenced to do well again. ■ Royal Banquet is pleasing in his preparation for the summer meetings, when his special mission will be the Manawatu Cup. As a rule during the summer he develops soreness, but this year he is showing no signs' of it, probably due to the fact that the wet season has kept the tracks easy. ' ' ;': J. M. Cameron's gelding Sir Nigel has never looked better than he does at present, being bright and fresh and carrying more condition than at any previous period of his racing career He has the reputation of being something above the average, but his performances do not confirm this. He is to be tried over middle distances in the future.
