WELLINGTON ROWING CLUB
A substantial increase in the membership of the Wellington Rowing Club since the beginning of the season was recorded at the half-yearly meeting of the club last night. The half-yearly report presented by the secretary, Mr. W. T. Jury, showed that at the close of last season the active membership was 86, and the present membership 113. Thirty-seven active members, one honorary member,, and one associate member had been elected for the season, against ten resignations. Owing to bad weathar conditions at the beginning of the season, club racing was held up for a time. Good progress, however, had been made in recent weeks, and the programme was now well up to date. Attention was drawn by Mr. D. G. Maney to the number of boats out of action. He said he had found it very difficult to obtain boats in which to take out new members.
Mr. H. J. Luke said that it was largely the fault of members themselves that the boats were out of action. There were may small repairs which could be very easily done by members.
It was decidtid to 1 initiate a series of working bees, commencing on Thursday evening, for the purpose of repairing the plant.
On the financial side, the club was shown to be in a sound position. Subscriptions exceeded those of last year by about £40, and profits from dances and social evenings had increased by £10..
Messrs. R. J. Tregurtha and F. Faire were elected to the general committee to fill two vacancies that had occurred.
