SYDNEY, This Day.
Manned by volunteer non-union crews; three vessels left Sydney during the weekend according to schedule. A steamer also sailed from Newcastle with a volunteer crew.
The Niagara sailed at I p.m. on Saturday for Auckland, and no trouble was experienced. She picked up a volunteer crew down the harbour.
Under the Transport Workers' Act, which- applies at present to waterside workers at certain Australian ports, excepting Sydney, the Government can compel the seamen to procure licences^, which can be cancelled if the men refuse work under the terms of the current award or where the men exercise intimidation or violence or are con-, victed of an offence tipon any wharf,' pier, barge, or ship.
