Mrs. F. Crawford was hostess at a "gift evening" held: recently. in the Jewish Club rooms, the guest of honour being Miss Edna Morey, whose marriage takes place shortly. Mrs. Crawford wore a jade green embossed vellet frock, and Miss Morey a smart white frock and white fur wrap. The evening passed all too quickly with games, competitions, dancing, and several , charmingly rendered songs by pupils of Mrs. Crawford. A feature of the proceedings was the opening of the numerous parcels and their accompanying, greetings caused much merriment. . The folio wing contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable programme: Misses C. Griffin,- R. Griffin, Margaret Outtrim (songs); Misses P. Peachey, T. Rigby, pupils, of Miss M. Oates (dances); Mrs. Hodgson (dance music); and Mr. L. Downes (extras). Mrs. Crawford _ and Miss Oates were the accompanists. A dainty ' supper was served. Mrs. J. Aitken, on behalf of Miss Morey, thanked the hostess and all present for the happy thought that prompted such an enjoyable function. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Morey, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Fuller, Mr. and Mrs. Fafey, Mr. and Mrs. Fraser, Mr. and Mrs. D. Bremner, Mrs. Marshall, Mr. and Mrs^ Kelly, Misses M. Morey, W. Morey, P. Morey, M. Thompson, A. Farcy, G. Quigly, B. Carr, S. A most enjoyable evening was spent recently, at the home of Mrs. E. O. Wahren, 5 Chamberlain Street, Karori, the guest of honour being Miss Eveline Lester, whose marriage to Mr. Winston Wahren takes place shortly. Games and dancing were enjoyed by the guests, and after a dainty supper had been served, the guest of honour had the pleasure of unwrapping the many useful gifts.
A very enjoyable party Vas given at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. K. H. Bryeriton in honour of Miss Eva Pike, whose marriage to Mr. Charles Wentworth takes place this month. The party took the form of a :"gift evening," with a bright programme of dancing, games, and musical items. Great interest was shown in the opening of the numerous gifts, and musical items contributed by Mr. and Mrs. V. Butland, Mr. L. Driver, and Miss Valeric arid Master Alan . Bryenton were greatly appreciated. Amongst those present were Mr. and Mrs. Weir Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Bryenton, Mr. and Mrs. Butland, Sister Mundy, Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Bolter, Miss Christie, Miss Dalziel, Mrs. G. Bryenton, Mr. and Mrs. Brattle, Miss Collins, Miss Wiffin, Miss Hollis, Miss Taylor; and Messrs. Driver, Hollis Fuller, and Pike. The party ended with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and hearty cheers for the host and hostess.
This week Miss Vida Blair, whose wedding to Mr. Athol B. Taylor will take place shortly, has been entertained at a succession of parties given in her honour by her friends. One of the most delightful of these was a "kitchen" tea given by Mrs. James Cable (assisted by Miss Noela Cable), at her home in Hawkestpne Street. About forty of Miss Blair's friends arrived carrying oddly-shaped parcels, which, when opened after tea revealed a collection of kitchen utensils. "Coathangers" were the gifts at the tea given for Miss Blair by Mrs. V. T Thompson and Miss Myra Firth. Mrs' Fordham, Seatoun Heights, gave a most enjoyable "china tea." Miss Agnes Stops, the well-Rnown honorary organiser of the Women's Institutes, who did much good work when she was in New Zealand for a few years ago, has arrived here again and after visiting Auckland, is now in Napier, and will come on to Wellington later. Miss Stops left England after the Jubilee celebrations were over, and has been in Ceylon, Tasmania, and Australia, and. will spend a few. months in New Zealand. She will be in Wellington soon after Christmas, and will visit the South Island Lady Aberdeen sent greetings through Miss Stopf to members of the National Council of Women in New Zealand, and Miss Stops hopes to meet some of the branches while here.
WOMEN'S STUDY CIRCLE
The Women's Study Circle terminated their year's activities on Monday when they held a social evening. Mrs. Lincker acted as hostess.
Mrs. Popple and Mrs. Walsh played a panoforte duot, and Mrs. Popple accompanied the community singing; Miss Hadgetl gave a tap dance, Mrs. Johnson a recitation, Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Prince songs, , Mrs. McGlashen Smith and Mrs. Magee a humorous dialogue, and Mrs. Williams two readings.
Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Prince were in charge of the entertainments, and Mrs. Johnson of the competitions Prize winners were Mrs. Lynn and M;ss Black.
Mrs. Cuthwaite, Mrs. Mahan, Mrs Chapman, and Mrs. Parkin were responsible for refreshments.
A vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. Lincker and all those who so willingly assisted and who were responsible for the success of the function.
