Mr. and Mrs. Percy Thomson,,Wadestown, have taken a cottage at Rotorua for the holidays, and will leave just before Christmas. Miss Mary Mac Lean, C.8.E., will arrive from a long overseas tour on Monday, by the Monowai. Lady Nolan and Miss Nolan left Auckland on Thursday by motor-car on their return to Wellington. Miss Maddever, president of the Southern Wellington Federation of Women's Institutes, left last night for Timaru to attend the historical pageant arranged by the South and MidCanterbury Federation of Women's Institutes. . ' Miss Mary Latham, Wanganui, who was the guest of Miss Norah Hoare, Christchurch, is now in Wellington and1 is staying with her cousin, Mrs. David Hoare, Heretaunga. Mr. and Mrs. R. F. E. Fildes, Kelburn, left Wellington last night on a visit to Timaru. Madame Marsi, chaperon of the Viennese Boys' Choir, is now in Timaru. Mrs. C. Martin, Wellington, is visiting Mr/and Mrs. Spence Lyons, Wanganui. Lady East, London, England, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Alan Donald, Remuera, Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Templer, of the Bank of New South Wales, Nelson, who have been touring in the North Island for the past few weeks, Jiave npw a , returned home. Mr. and Mrs. M. H. • Richards, Timaru, are visitors to Wellington. Mrs. G. H. Dixon, Remuera, Auckland, is a visitor to Wellington and is staying at "Pendennis," Burnell Avenue. ■• ' Mrs. R. Dawson-Welsh, Wellington, is visiting Timaru. Mrs. Richard David, who has been visiting Wellington, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs.- Clapcott, who has been the guest of Mrs. E. W. Broad, Wanganui, has returned to Wellington. Mrs. M.- R. Beard, Wellington, is visiting her sister, Mrs. F. Moore, "Ratanui," Wanganui. Rear-Admiral and' Mrs. J. Ritchie. and: their, children, who arrived from I England on Thursday by the Tamaroa, are the guests of Mrs. W. T. Ritchie, Te Tawa, • South Canterbury. Mrs. W. S. Bean, who has been visiting Wellington, has returned to her home in Christchurch. Miss J. Marchant, Wellington, is the guest of the Misses G. and S. Brann, Cambridge. Lady Sidey, who has been visiting Christchurch, has returned to Dunedin. Mrs. M. C. Keane, Melbourne, Australia, formerly of Wellington, who has been spending some weeks with Mrs.1 Norman Burton, Auckland, has arrived in Wellington and is the guest of Mrs. Henry. Lady Herdman and Miss Joyce Herdman left Auckland today for Lake Rotoiti, where they will spend the Christmas holidays. Mrs. Jury, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Neil Tewsley, Auckland, has returned to Wellington. Miss Lorna Lambie, who has been the guest of Mrs. E. B. Wilson, Kelburn, Wellington, left on Thursday evening for the south. Mrs. C. N. Taylor, of Wellington, in company with her husband, has just returned from an extended tour ,in England and on the Continent, returning via the United States, where they' spent some time in California. , Mrs. F. Byrne, of Hataitai, left by yesterday's Auckland express for a holiday visit to Waiuku. Mrs. P. Wall (Hatuma), Mrs. Walton White and Mrs. Ruth . White (Eketahuna) are staying at the Midland Hotel. Mrs. Caughey (Auckland), Miss C. Hewitt, and Mrs. G. Monrad (Martinborough), Mrs. W. G. Fry (Feilding), Mrs. and Miss Campbell (Taonui)i Mrs. Q. Donald (Featherston), and Mrs. W. G. Martin (Masterton) are at the Royal Oak Hotel. Mrs. (Moore (Wanganui), Miss L. Miller (Sydney), and Mrs. J. A. Batchelor (Wellington) are at the Hotel St. George. Misses A. and F. Jenkins (Feilding), Mrs. R. G. Beard, and Mrs. T. Murdoch (Kimbolton), Mrs. T. Pratt (Feilding), Mrs. E. J. Bodily (Hunterville), Mrs. E. T. Reid (Eltham), and Mrs. J. Mellon (Nelson) are staying at the Empire Hotel.
Miss Stocker presided over a small attendance of members at the December meeting of the Paraparaumu Women's Institute. The competition, "Best article for Is," was won by Mrs. Hughes with a very beautiful cushion. Mrs. R. Evans, Kimberley, ably demonstrated "papier mache" making, and showed several articles which were greatly admired. A vote of thanks' to Mrs. Evans was proposed by Mrs. Hadfield. ' The hostesses were Mesdames Killick, Freda Hughes, and Pascoe, who served a dainty afternoon tea.
