Mr. C. N. Taylor, general .manager of the Taranaki and' Moturoa. Oil Companies, has returned to New Zealand from London, via the United States. While in--America Mr. Taylor closely investigated, latest methods, and equipment used in drilling for oil,, paying special attention to operations in California. ■ '
The Rev. J. H. Haslam, president of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, left for New Plymouth this morn-ing-for the anniversary of the Whiteley Memorial Church, and will return on Tuesday. ; . ■ ; .

The ceremony of the blessing and investiture of the robes'by "Bishop Liston on .Monsignor HV R-Holbrook. Roman Catholic parish prfesf of Grsy Lynn, took place in the parish.'church on Thursday night. The ceremony was immediately followed by a presentation and addresses made in the lecture hall of the Grey Lynn Library, Both the church and the hall were crowded to the doors. Morisignor .Holbrook, who was formerly archdeacon, was recently raised to the rank of domestic prelate by his Holiness Pope Pius XI. This honour carries with it'the title of monsignor. The rank . of. domestic prelate is reserved for. high dignitaries of the Roman Catholic Church; and. the holder is entitled to wear purple. In the ceremony of the blessing and investiture of the robes.Bishop Liston was assisted by DeanW. _J, Murphy and Father F. Sheerin. Bishop. Liston said the Pope had- .conferred this honour upon Monsignor Holbrook in recognition of the signal service he had- performed in the priesthood and 'his social work in the city of Auckland. ...... ........ . ..:
The funeral this morning of Mr. E. K. McClune, who died on. Thursday night from injuries received jn a motor collision, was largely attended,' among those present being -the headmaster (Mr. W. A. Armour), prefects," and members of the staff of the Wellington College, and representatives 6f the Wellington College Old Boys.. Mass was celebrated at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Hill Street, by the Rev. Father Smyth, arid the Rev. Father Mllligan officiated at the graveside at Karori Cemetery. The pall-bearers were Messrs. A. Lake and G." tochxane (Education Department staff and cricket club), H. Reynolds and P. Dyhrberg (Wellington- College), A. K. Hill and K. Hogan (Wellington College Old Boys).
