SPEEDWAY STABS
AMERICANS MAY COMPETE
If satisfactory terms can be arranged ■with the team of American speedway riders and stunt stars, which will arrive by the Maunganul on Monday, en route for Australia and Japan, the members of the team will compete at the opening meeting of the Wellington Speedway season on December 14.
The team, which is headed by Putt Mosman, who took a "rodeo circus" of speedway riders to Japan two years ago, has the official backing of the American Motor-cycle Association, and is therefore to be regarded as beincr c T Ol?Posed .of the best men in the United States. Mosman finished fourth in the American speedway championship last season.
-AJso included in the team are Byrd McKinney, Ray Grant, Bo Lisman, Sam Arena, "Pee Wee" Cullum, Manuel iruyello, and two girl riders, Misses J. Grant and H. Mosman. Miss Grant is the American woman champion, and Miss Mosman is the world champion woman stunt rider.
Should the negotiations prove successful, the presence of the Americans together with that of the English cracks, will give a great fillip to the local speedway season. ' The team of English riders specially selected for a tour of New Zealand this summer will also arrive in Wellington on Monday.' Three of the members, coming via Australia, are accompanied by two of Australia's leading speedway riders. The English Test captain, who is coming via America, will join his team mates in Wellington on Monday. Arrangements have been made for a reception to the visitors in the Mayor's room at 5.30 p.m. on Monday
