HMVKE CUP CRICKET

WANGANUI'S COLLAPSE

(By Toie.raph— l -ess Association.)

NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day.

The dismissal of the Wanganui representative cricket teanj for 22 runs in the first innings by Taranaki at the opening of the Hawke Cup elimination match yesterday was the surprise of the competition so far. Taranaki baited first and, against steady bowling and on a tricky wicket, were dismissed for 157, of which Nasmith compiled 45. The position looked gloomy for Taranaki, but in a little, more than an hour Wanganui was skittled by the excellent bowling of S. Betts (five for 9) and Christensen (four for 11). Taranaki went in again and at stumps had made 50 for four wickets.
