SUCCESSFUL "DIGGERS"
CROWN AND ANCHOR FAIR
The Miramar R.S.A. Auxiliary Committees held a very successful fair at the Miramar South School. Colonel Cowles, president of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association, accompanied by Mrs. Cowles and daughter, opened the fair. Mrs. Cowles and Mrs. Geo. Downes (chairwoman of the local ladies' auxiliary committee) were presented with sprays of roses by Miss Audrey Smith and little Naomi Bell.
The stalls showed that a keen interest had been taken in producing'an attractive and bounteous supply of goods, and from the results achieved the work proved to have been by no means in vain. The stallholders were as follows;— Plain and fancy goods, Mesdames Thomson, Cooper, and Murdock; sweets, . Mesdames , Climo, Bell, and Goldfinch; cakes, .Mesdames .Wilson, Beaumont, Rowlands, and J. Smith; household, Mesdames Downes, Andrew, Rait, and Hinsley; jumble, Mesdames Williams and McColl; produce, Mesdames McNally and Dyer; icecream and drinks, Mesdames McCord and Ward; tea-rooms, Mesdames Smith, Histed,: Trower, and- Kean.
A merry-go-round and sideshows fostered the spirit necessary towards a successful fair, and the clown with his "Punch and Judy" show proved' a great attraction to "the children. The big Christmas cake, donated by Mrs. Cooper and iced by Mr. Taylor, was won by Mrs. Innes. Totara Road. ■ ■
