AMATEUR ATHLETICS
EVENING MEETING
One of a series' of evening sports meetings held xihder the auspices of the Wellington Centre of: the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was conducted by the -Wellington -Amateur Athletic Club at the : Basin Reserve last night.-. A good programme of scratch events was provided, and some excellent performances were witnessed. The showing of 'E. •S. Phillips, formerly of the Hawke's Bay Club and now a member of the Wellington Club, was watched with interest. He was particularly impressive with his jumping, clearing sft Bin, although he was handicapped through lack of a landing pit. The Oates Baton relay race, for which only the Wellington Club fielded a team, was run off, the team completing the.course on its own.- A further meeting will be held next Monday, the programme- being composed of soratch events.
