UNIVERSITY LECTURES

DUNEDIN, This Day.

By resolution passed in July, 193 a, the Professorial Board of the University of Otago withdrew the privilege of exemption, from attending lectures from all pupils of secondary schools and technical colleges within the provinces of Otago and Southland.

To this veto strong exception was taken by the principals of the schools affected and also by the Secondary Schools' Association of New Zealand. A legal ruling on the matter was obtained from the Crown Law Office-, which states that the resolution of the board was ultra vires and the imposition of such a, restriction .'consequently is invalid. No similar restrictive action has been taken by any other university college in New Zealand. ■
